1. How was the original material gathered and processed?

2. Why aren't there more images?

3. How can I help the Timeline grow?

4. What if I have an image or document that would help the website but I don't want to give it away?

1. How was the original material gathered and processed?

The Fort Worth Timeline History subcommittee has reviewed material using the following conventions: Four existing timelines were entered or scanned into a preliminary database. No attempt was made to extract material from any of the available published histories of Fort Worth.

The History Review Team, composed of noted local authors and historians, reviewed the material and combined related entries, removed duplicate entries and removed entries that did not relate to or have significant impact on Fort Worth events. This is only a starting point. This timeline, we believe, is ready for additional input from a variety of sources that will provide the necessary information to begin the production of a more complete and accurate linear picture of Fort Worth’s rich and diverse heritage. 2. Why aren't there more images?

There are two reasons for the current number of images. The first is time. Solving copyright issues is time consuming and we felt it more important to process event entries first. We will be continually adding images to the timeline. Second, the images that are added will relate specifically to a particular event. The events will be entered, and then images will be screened to apply the best available image to that event. Other images will be referred to or linked to as the Timeline develops. Back to Top

3. How can I help the Timeline grow?

The Timeline Project Committee is deeply grateful to all those who submit material and expand the story of our remarkable city. Please note that the history subcommittee will review each entry submitted for form, content and accuracy. The subcommittee will meet whenever submissions reach a sufficient number to allow the historians to review a block of information. Be advised that, depending on the frequency and number of submissions, there could be a substantial delay between the time of submission and final inclusion on the website.

If you would like to help make the Fort Worth Timeline grow, contact us and tell us how you would like to help. Sorry, we cannot accept submissions at this email address. We will contact you and make arrangements for receiving the information you would like to provide. Back to Top

4. What if I have an image or document that would help the website, but I don't want to give it away?

If you have a picture or document that would enhance the website, we only need it long enough to scan it digitally. We would then return the image to you. If you don't want to send us the document or image, there are two ways to send it to us. You could have the image scanned at any commercial facility that provides scanning services and then give us the computer disk; or, we could make arrangenents directly with you to meet at the public library, city hall or workplace of a timeline committee member and scan the document in your presence, returning it to you immediately. Scanning documents generally does not cause any damage. However, if there is a concern because of the item's age or delicate condition an alternate method may be to re-photograph the item and then scan the new photo. Back to Top
